For the past few weeks I have been using a skin care system called Proactiv Solution. It is a set of 5 products which work together to prevent breakouts. Since I began using the products I haven’t had a spot and my skin feels a lot less dry than it usually does.
It is recommended that you use the system as follows.
- In the morning, cleanse by using the Renewing Cleanser on damp skin and then rinse off with warm water. Then use the Revitalising Toner which you apply with a cotton pad and leave to dry. Once the toner is dry then apply the Repairing Day Lotion.
- In the evening follow the same steps but swap the Repairing Day Lotion for the Repairing Night Lotion.
- The final product in the set is the Refining Mask which should be used 2 or 3 times a week. The mask is clay based and is supposed to unclog pores and reduce pore size. I didn’t really notice a difference when I used this but that’s probably I don’t get obvious pores on my face.
Looking at the ingredients it looks like there are loads of nasty chemicals in the products but when I looked them up online it seems as though more are natural than it appears on first glance. For example the main ingredients in the cleanser are apricot pits. On the Proactiv Blog, it warns that benzoyl peroxide can often cause redness, itching or swelling of the skin and also bleach towels, clothing etc. Nowhere on the packaging of the products does it say this. Another downside is that the Day Lotion does not contain sunscreen so you have to apply that on top. When I did this my skin felt very greasy because of all the different products.
The products smell ok but not as nice as some other skin care products I’ve used but it does seem to do its job well. The set of products costs £39.90.
