Favourite Things

Sometimes it feels as though I’ve got no time for myself any more but on those rare occasions that Dylan actually falls asleep in his cot or basket, instead of on me, I find myself missing him even when I am right there.

This is one of those moments. I’m sitting next to Dylan as he sleeps peacefully, almost hoping that he will wake up and need a cuddle from me. It’s sad to think that one day he will be big enough that he no longer needs me to comfort him when he wakes up. Even though I rarely sleep in stretches longer than 4 hours any more, I have to do everything with one hand, and we’ve had more than our share of problems with breastfeeding, I am absolutely in love with being a mum and wouldn’t change it for the world.

My Favourite Things

  • The smell of Dylan’s head – I could sit and sniff it all day and I wish there was a way to bottle it so that I could smell it forever.
  • That cheeky grin that lights up his whole face.
  • The way he wraps his arms around me for a cuddle.
  • The lovely neck nuzzles that he gives me when he is extra tired.
  • The way he beams at his Dad when he gets home from work.
  • Seeing the suprise and excitement on his face when he learns something new like rolling over or grasping a toy.
  • His gorgeous big blue eyes, just like his Dad’s.
  • Those eyes looking up at me as I feed him, and the little smiles he sometimes gives me mid-feed. It makes all of the struggles we’ve had with feeding worth it.
  • Walking in the woods or on the beach and seeing him looking around, taking everything in.
  • Seeing how much he loves his Dad and how much his Dad loves him.
  • Watching him playing with his grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins. He loves cuddles from everyone.
  • His yawns – how can he possibly be so cute?

I think I could keep going forever!
