Choc Chic is a company which sells kits to make your own healthy raw chocolate.  Raw chocolate is healthier than commercial chocolate as it has less saturated fat, less process sugars, less soya, dairy products and additives.  It is known as a super food as it contains lots of antioxidants.

The Choc Chick Starter Kit contains the ingredients you need to make raw chocolate as well as a recipe card with instructions on how to make plain chocolate, truffles and cocktails.  There are enough ingredients (according to the pack) to make 32 chocolates and over 30 healthy truffles.  After reading through the instructions, everything looked really simple so I couldn’t wait to get started!

First I made the plain chocolate which was very easy – all you have to do is melt the ingredients and mix together.  I’d bought some chocolate moulds but only had enough mixture to make 15 chocolates so the instructions must be for much smaller moulds!  The chocolates were set after about 2 hours in the fridge but the first one I tried tasted really odd and sweet.  I thought I’d put too much sweetener in but the second one I tried was very bitter so I must not have mixed everything well enough.  I decided to melt the chocolates down and re-mix.  This time the chocolates were much nicer but still didn’t taste that good – there wasn’t much of a taste at all which was weird as they looked like chocolate and had the right texture.  There isn’t really that much that can go wrong in making them so either I did something quite stupid or they actually don’t taste great.  Hopefully the healthy truffles will taste better…….

………I much preferred the taste of the healthy truffles!  There were really easy to make and you didn’t feel guilty when eating them!  I would definitely make these again but I’m still not too sure about the plain chocolate.

On the website, you can also buy all of the ingredients in the kit separately so I think in future I’d do this so that I could just make the truffles and I’d really like to try some of the other recipes on the recipe card as well.
