NOTW: Crackle

Last week I bought two crackle polishes from 17 as part of the three for two offer in Boots.  I don’t own any other crackle polishes so this is the first time I’ve ever used it and I managed to make a bit of a mess.  The one I’m wearing this week (over Miners Plum) doesn’t have a name but is a black crackle with gold glitter.  I’m not sure if all crackle polishes are the same but this one seems quite thick and gloopy and I don’t think I ended up applying the right amount to get good crackles!  On some nails it didn’t seem to crackle very well at all!  I love the shine this polish has in the light from the glitter but my nails don’t look great up close – I think I’ll get better at applying crackle polish with practice though!  I took these photos on the second day of wearing the polish and there was already some tip wear which was a little disappointing.

What do you think of the colour?  Is there a special way to use crackle polish that I’m missing?!

No7 Metallic Eyes Pencil

For Christmas I was given a No7 Metallic Eyes Pencil in green and I love it!  It has a really creamy texture so is easy to apply quickly without going back over again and rubbing your eye.

It also doesn’t need to be warmed up before you use it and it smudges nicely as well.  I really love the colour which is actually slightly greener in real life than these photos suggest and it is highly pigmented.

I sometimes get itchy eyes when I wear eyeliner which has put me off trying new ones in the past but I’ve had no problems with this one.

I love it so much I think I’ll get a few more colours!

Celtic Sheepskin

Celtic Sheepskin have some really lovely wintery clothes, shoes and accessories but you need to be quick to order in time for Christmas.  As long as your order is placed by 2pm today you’ll be guaranteed delivery for Christmas.

1. Classic Sheepskin Boots, £140

2. Longline Cable Tunic, £120

3. Verbier Hat, £98

4. Jacquard Wristwarmers, £23

5. Donegal Crew Neck Jumper, £70

6. Baby Booties, £15

As you can see, the stuff sold by Celtic Sheepskin is quite expensive but it’s good quality and sheepskin is very warm and cosy!

Spa Paradisa Sweet Coconut Lip Balm

I really love the summery tin this Spa Paradisa Sweet Coconut lip balm comes in and I also love the lip balm itself!  It smells delicious and is really moisturising – it works really well on dry, chapped lips.  There are no parabens in the lip balm which is always a good thing and it contains shea butter and vitamin E.  Now I really want to try some other Spa Paradisa products!  There are lots in the range – body butters, body scrubs, bath soaks and more.  You can buy Spa Paradisa products from Boots and Next.

Rescue Balm

Rescue Balm is one of the best lip balms I’ve ever used.  It works amazing well at repairing chapped lips and gives your lips a nice little sheen.  It is free from parabens and although it’s not the nicest smelling of lip balms, is so good that it doesn’t matter and the smell is not strong anyway.  You can buy Rescue Balm from Boots, Holland & Barrett and some other independent pharmacies.

RapidLash

RapidLash is an eyelash enhancing serum which claims to ‘improve the overall appearance and condition of lashes from just 8 weeks’.  It is made up of polypeptides to strengthen and protect lashes, proteins and vitamins to replenish lashes and keep them healthy as well as ‘moisturising and rejuvenating agents’ to add shine.

I’ve been using RapidLash for nearly 3 months now.  You apply it in the evening before you go to bed and leave it to work overnight.  In the beginning, I didn’t really notice any change in my lashes (although I didn’t remember to use it every night which may have made a difference to how long it took for any effects to show) but over the past month or so I’ve begun to notice that they are getting thicker in the corners and are getting longer too.  They also seem to be falling out less!  I should have taken before and after photos but I didn’t think of this until quite a few weeks in sorry!  You are supposed to use RapidLash every day for at least 8 weeks and from then on just 2- 3 times a week to maintain the condition of your eyelashes.

I would recommend RapidLash but remember that it does seem to take a while to make a difference so don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t work straight away!  You can buy RapidLash from Boots, either in store or online.

Nicole by O.P.I

Nicole by O.P.I have some fantastic new nail polishes in 24 different colours.  Right now I’m wearing ‘It’s Possible’ which is a metallic browny pink colour.  It’s been on my nails for a few days now without chipping and was very easy to apply, drying quickly.  The quirky shape of the bottle is unlike any nail varnish bottles I’ve ever seen and the brush has a longer handle which, I think, is what made it easier to apply.  I can’t wait to use the other two colours I’ve got – ‘It’s Up To You’ (a dark metallic blue) and ‘Ink A Dink A Pink’ – which are both really bright and vibrant and will hopefully look as good as ‘It’s Possible’.

You can buy Nicole by O.P.I nail varnishes and treatments from Boots for £6.95 each.  I think it’s worth paying a bit extra as cheaper nail varnishes (like the 2true one I reviewed a few weeks ago) always take longer to dry and chip really easily so need reapplying every other day.

EZ Comb

My hair is very curly and I’ve never really been able to do anything exciting with it so I when I came across the EZ Comb by JML I thought I’d give it a go.  The EZ Comb is basically 2 metal combs linked together by elastic covered in decorated beads.  It comes with a little booklet showing you how to style your into the 8 different styles possible with the comb.  It is supposed to work on all hair types; long, short, curly, thick or thin.

I was quite disappointed when I tried out the EZ Comb.  To start with, most of the styles are quite hard to do yourself although I suppose you would get better if you practiced.  When I managed to get the comb into my hair it only lasted a couple of minutes before it fell out again.  Thinking I’d done it wrong, I asked my mum to help but she couldn’t get it to stick in my hair either.  The teeth of the comb are not strong enough and started to deform after a few attempts at getting it into my hair making it even less likely to stay put.  My mum has straight hair so we had a go at using the EZ Comb in her hair but that didn’t work either.  The comb just seems to fall out no matter which style you try.

However the comb does look nice and you get two different colours in the pack, one silver and one bronze.  The pack costs £14.99 and is available from ASDA, Superdrug and Boots.

I think the EZ Comb is a good idea but it could do with some improving.  As it is now, I’m guessing it would only work properly on thin, straight hair.  I also think it’s a bit too expensive for what it is so I would say you should only buy it if you are sure it will work with your hair type.
