Umberto Giannini Curl Friends

For the past few weeks, I have been using the Umberto Giannini range for curly hair, aptly named Curl Friends. I have all but given up trying new hair products as I always end up going back to the same two products from Avon – the Quick Touch Leave In Conditioner and the Dry Ends Serum – but I was intrigued by some of the products in the Curl Friends range so thought I would be brave and try them out.

Curl Friends

I haven’t used mousse for years now because I tend to find that it makes my hair feel and look extremely dry and usually crispy. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the Shapely Curls Mousse. It gave my hair some extra volume but didn’t make it feel like straw. The ends felt a little dry the first time I used it so I now put a squirt of the Quick Touch Dry Ends Serum on before applying the mousse and the combo seems to work pretty well for me.

The Natural Curls Styling Cream is actually very similar to the Quick Touch Leave In Conditioner I normally use. It is strange as when I apply it, it almost feels like it pulls all of the moisture out of my hair which made me panic the first time I used it – I thought that my hair was going to dry all frizzy! However, when my hair has finished drying, it looks about as smooth as it ever gets and smells lovely. My only niggle is the price. At £6 for 150ml it is just so much more than the £1.40 for 250ml Avon version! For that reason, I don’t think it will become a permenant replacement for my Quick Touch Leave In Conditioner although I would say it is equally as good and smells better. That being said, it is much cheaper than lots of other curly hair products out there so I would definitely suggest trying it once to see whether your hair gets on with it.

The biggest let down of the range for me was the Slimming Cream. I was picturing smooth, flowing waves after using this but my hair turned out even more curly than with the other products! When I applied it to my wet hair, it felt as though it would be really moisturising but once my hair dried it seemed to be anything but and I was left with loads of frizzy flyaways. Unfortunately not impressed at all!

I tend to switch up my conditioner quite often as I am always looking for a better one, so I was excited to try the Curl Enhancing Conditioner. I’m a little on the fence about it, but to be honest I am rarely blown away with conditioners. I feel like this one wasn’t quite thick enough for my hair and I do need to use more than I do with other brands. I love the packing though which has a big opening to make sure you can get every last bit out. It also smells lovely but I do wish it was stronger as once I get out of the shower I can’t small it anymore.

One product from the range which I was really nervous about trying was the Scrunching Jelly. I’ve had bad experiences in the past with similar products which I usually find make my hair look both greasy and frizzy at the same time – I’m not even sure how they do that! I was however pleasantly surprised by this one. It gives a reasonable hold without looking like there is tonnes of product in your hair.

Overall, I think the range is good and it’s also pretty affordable. I love the wide range of products. I personally would buy the Styling Cream again but probably not any of the other styling products. That’s just my personal personal preference and I would imagine that everyone will have a favourite out of the range depending on their specific curl type and the look they are going for. I think that the Curl Friends range is better than lots of the expensive brands for curly hair and am pleased to have found some different products to suit my hair!
